In the late 1940's the Humber Yawl Club committee made the decision to to adopt a one-design class for the club. Their requirements were put to Frank Morgan-Giles for a design. Frank explained that in 1938 he had designed such a vessel for the Teignmouth Sailing Club, a 16ft half-decker and considered that these plans, slightly modified and lengthed by 6 inches to the clubs requirements would be suitable. This design must have been adopted as by 1950 there were five of the class racing on the Humber. These were built by Chas. Perarson Ltd. of Hull. The original quotation for the build of these boats was £270 but by eliminating some of the more costly fittings and amending the specification without compomising the design is was possible for the builders to produce these boats for £205 each including sails and all gear.
